I’m Maddy Gould (she, her, hers) a junior from Seattle, WA studying sociology and organizational studies.  On campus, I'm currently an EmPower Center intern and Writing Center fellow.  I’m an avid downhill skier, I love hiking, cooking, dancing, and yoga and I’m an extremely subpar but enthusiastic tennis player. I am super connected to Advocates’ mission and could go on for hours about why I chose to become an advocate, but to sum it up, sexual assault is vastly misunderstood but astoundingly prevalent and I’m excited to be a member of a community working towards providing support to survivors as well as combatting a culture of normalized rape.

My goal is to not only make the reporting system more navigable for survivors, but to really prove to them that they are not alone

I'm originally from a small town on the North Coast of Oregon, but I also call Henderson, NV and the Vegas Metro Area home. I like spicy ramen, going to the beach, Tillamook Oregon Strawberry ice cream, and bullet journaling. Last semester I studied abroad in Osaka, Japan and now I'm happy to be back at Pitzer and a part of Pitzer Advocates once again. I originally joined Advocates to act as a resource for my peers while gaining as much knowledge as I could about these complex and crucial topics that Advocates deals with on a regular basis. However, my reasons for staying in Advocates has since evolved, I hope to see Advocates as an inclusive resource for the Pitzer community that continues to focus on peer support, education, and dialogue.

After graduation, I hope to be an elementary school teacher. I joined Advocates because I am passionate about making Pitzer more welcoming for survivors, listening to and supporting survivors, and dialoguing with the Pitzer faculty and administration on collaborative ways to make Pitzer a safer living and learning environment.  I am very dedicated to supporting survivors in an intersectional way that recognizes the complexities of interesting identities, in particular, for LGBTQIAP+ survivors and survivors of color. I hope to contribute towards dismantling rape culture by changing the normative narrative surrounding sexual violence in a college setting. Beyond Advocates, I love painting animals, cookie desserts, and leading diversity workshops for high school students.
